Here at RT Mechanics we offer full MOT testing among our other services. We have recently acquired a new site in Haslemere (St. Christopher’s Green) that allows us to expand our operations and offer an MOT testing service, efficiently and with a quicker turnaround time.
To find out if your vehicle has a valid MOT and when your next MOT test is due head here, and enter your vehicle registration number. Alternatively, you could find your current MOT certificate and look for an expiry date. The MOT can be completed on the vehicle at any time before the expiry date but to preserve your existing expiry date, you will need to take your MOT test up to 1 month (minus a day) before it runs out. So, if your MOT runs out on 27th June, the earliest date you can have your MOT test and keep the same renewal date for next year will be 28th May.
An MOT is an annual inspection that is required by law. Any vehicle that is older than 3 years needs one and is designed to keep all road users safe. The tests follow a strict checklist set out by the DVSA and carried out by someone who is DVSA accredited. It is important to note that although the certificate is valid for 12 months its condition is passed on the day of the test, so its important to stay on top of general and routine maintenance, tyres etc.
Electric and hybrid vehicles, although newer technology still require MOT testing and adhere to the same rules so after 3 years of ownership. The only difference is they don’t require an emissions test.
